Has Ice Fishing started in S.Korea during late Dec 2012 / early Jan 2013 ?
I am planning a visit to S. Korea in late Dec 2012 to early Jan 2013. I have been surfing around for info on ice fishing in Gangwon-do. And had made enquiries with a few agencies but have not had any success in getting a response yet. I am hoping to get some advice from this forum. My questions:1. From period 29 Dec to 6 Jan - would activities like ice fishing & ice sledding be already available during this time?
2. Hwacheon and Inje seems to be popular sites for the activities I mentioned. Any advice how to get to these places, places to stay, nearby interesting places to visit?
I am planning only 2D1N at Hwacheon or Inje. Thanks!
cheers,
bledix

Hi~I'm not too sure about the ice fishing details, but you can check out the website for the 2012 Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival
http://www.narafestival.com/07_global/?f_code=02_01&lang=eng
it appears to run from January 7 (Saturday) 2012 ~ January 29 (Sunday) (23days)
(korean homepage: www.narafestival.com)

Thanks rayevang!I have visited the website you suggested before and it was helpful for my 2nd question. I am really hoping someone can help with my 1st question. My travel date is pretty much fixed and I have no flexibility to change. I am wondering if that period (29 Dec - 6 Jan) is too early for the waters to be frozen to ice to be suitable for the activities I am interested in.
Hoping someone who has stayed long enough in Korea and know much about the past few years of history in ice activities during winter could help. Thanks!
cheers,

the website for the Inje Ice Festival 2012http://www.injefestival.co.kr/eng/main.php
the festivites were held even later than the Hwacheon Festival
you can probably wait for the official date for the 2013. With luck, it might be earlier.
I think Dec is too early though...

Hi,You may try http://www.adventurekorea.com/. They had the trip from 29th Dec to 1st Jan 2013 which involved ice fishing.
I will be at Korea for business travel and stay behind from 29th Dec and depart on 1st Jan.
I am looking around for the ice fishing too. But i guess the trip above may fit your schedule but not for me.
You may try it out. Cheers
