How much closes at New Year? (December/Jan)

Hello,

We are going to be in Laos over Christmas and the Calendar New Year.

I had assumed that everything would be open and running as it was in Cambodia and Vietnam last year but now I'm not so sure as I read a review regarding the Nong Khiaw Riverside hotel saying that all the tour operators were closed over New Year last year.

As this was where we were planning to be over NYE this has caused some worry. We wanted to do at least one organised trek whilst up there, probably on the 31st itself and then have a bit of a lazier day on the 1st January.

I have e-mailed Tiger Trails, Green Discovery and the Hotel itself and haven't had a reply from any of them!!

So I wondered if anyone knew?

Thursday 20th December Leave Melbourne 00.30
Friday 21st December Arrive in Bangkok
Saturday 22nd December Fly to Vientiane 11.25am
Sunday 23rd December Pick up Vientiane am for Day Kayaking Trip drop off Vang Vieng
Monday 24th December Vang Vieng
Tuesday 25th December Vang Vieng
Wednesday 26th December Bus Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang (7 hrs)
Thursday 27th December Pick up for Elephant training and motorkike trip
Friday 28th December
Saturday 29th December Drop off from Elephant training and bike trip
Sunday 30th December Boat to Nong Khiaw
Monday 31st December 100 Waterfalls Trek
Tuesday 1st January Walks to caves etc
Wednesday 2nd January Bus to Luang Prabang (3 hrs)
Thursday 3rd January Luang Prabang
Friday 4th January Fly from Luang Prabang to Vientiane
Saturday 5th January Fly home 21.50

This is our current proposed itinerary.

Thanks for any help!

Not much closes over this period, if at all.

Great thanks, I had assumed that it wouldn't, but it did seem like this wasn't the case for Nong Khiaw.

Maybe I should rejig so that we are in LP for New Year if its busier there

I believe Tiger Trails in NK is managed by the guy at the restaurant next door and he is probably away for NY. When I went there last Dec it was suddenly closed for the day as they went to LP.

Re bus to LP from NK, the early bus was a large tuktuk, the later bus about 10.30am is a normal bus, I would advise getting that.

Thankyou ever so much. Is the 10.30am the last bus?
