Help with Japan itinerary
Looking to head to Japan for 16 nights or so. We have been previously and on our first trip did the standard type of trip covering tokyo, hakkone, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima.We are considering spending an extended period possibly in Kyushu, however we are open to suggestions. We basically want to spend 5 or so nights in Tokyo and pretty open on the rest. If we were to spend 10 nights or so in Kyushu, what would an itinerary look like?

What time of the year are you planning to go? Also what interests you in Japan?If going to Kyushu, I'd spend a couple of days (3 or more if you wish) on Yakushima, particularly if you like nature.
Other places good for a day or so: Asosan, Kurokawa Onsen, Beppu, Fukuoka/Dazaifu, Nagasaki, Kagoshima/Sakurajima,... but it really depends on interests, so pick your favourites and then plot a route.

Unless you prefer to travel very slowly, IMO most of the places don't deserve much more than two days unlike Kyoto and Tokyo which are perfect as bases. Also can't really think of a good base on Kyushu as travel times can be substantial.Fukuoka, Kagoshima and Nagasaki and Yakushima would be my first choices for longer stays.
