OK. Would a loop of Southern Az work? There are several types of scenery you'd see.
Desert grasslands.
The Cochise Mountains are one of the prettier ranges in the area. Rolling grasslands and lots of ancient granite outcroppings and boulder fields. Either side will look much like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/zoniedude1/7988710472/
Sonoran Desert.
Saguaro National Park. Lots of cactus, more rocks!

The Foothills of taller mountains have streams that support plenty of wildlife. The scenery transitions to respectable forests at higher elevation. See Madera Canyon, above, http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=all&q=sabino+canyon&m=text and http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=all&q=mt.+graham&m=text
Throw in a few touristy destinations and you might have a week's worth of entertainment!

Hmm. Okay, I'm going to give it another shot on a Pacific NW itinerary then. You want to find a place you haven't been, so I'm going to give it to you, complete with the cautions. I'll be back in a while with an idea.
