Northern California Trip
My wife and I are planning a 5 night trip to NorCal in early November. We like adventure and unique places to stay. Our first night is at the Montara hostel. We plan to head to Mendocino for two nights after that. we are looking for recommendations on the following:1. Cool place to stay in Mendocino for reasonable $ (under 120)
2. Town to stay next 2 nights (we have flight out of San Fran at tail end of trip)
We are hoping to tackle some beginner surf lessons, mountain biking, fishing, beach combing, microbrews, yoga, off the beaten path suggestions, best fish tacos.
I know it's a lot but we are pumped.
Thanks for any advice.

Surf lessons in November ??? You ARE pumped ! After Mendocino(no suggestions), you might like Arcata & the drive back South on the 101...The "best" fish tacos are usually found from "food carts"...where ever you find them...carracar2
beginner surf lessons
The best place for that would probably be Santa Cruz, south of SF. You can also try Bolinas or Bodega BAy. You will need a wet suit, which the surf school would rent. There may be limited availability in November and bad weather could interfere. You will need a fishing license. There are one- two- and ten-day licenses available. You can buy them online or at just about any bait shop or sporting goods store. If you want to go on a fishing party boat, San Francisco, Berkeley, or Bodega Bay would be your best places.
Sport Fishing in California will tell you what is in season that you can legally catch. The Fishing Guide can help you find locations.
Fish tacos are more a southern California thing than northern California, but there are good ones to be had in SF and vicinity. The best pace to ask about that would be the SF board at Chowhound. Folks on that board will probably know good places wihtin about an hour's drive or so of SF.
Try the Anderson Valley Brewery n Boonville. Boonville would be an interesting place ot visit anyway. You can continue to Mendocino on Highway 128 through the Anderson Valley and do some wine tasting at some terrific wineries--that you may be completely unfamiliar with. There are also apple farms to visit.
Harbin Springs. Yoga, massage, hot springs, and more. You can stay overnight or get a day pass. Alcohol-free.

If you head North up to Humbolt County these are some good beaches. I love Patrick's Point and the agate Beach.A tad over your budget but a great spot to stay: http://redwoodriverresort.com/html/bears_den.html Take 299 from Hwy 1 to Redding, see the Sundial Bridge, then take Hwy 5 To Sacto. Then 80 towards Vallejo and on down to the Bay Bridge into San Francisco. In Williams go here; http://www.granzellas.com Great sandwiches. Fun spot. Have a nice 5 day sojourn. Watch your speed in Colusa County. LOVE catching folks.

Check out Mendocino Hotel and Garden Suites for your stay. For fishing, Bodega Bay or Fort Bragghave fishing fleets you can hook onto. A beautiful place on the coast is Salt Point State Park a little
north of Fort Ross. A great, great American eatery is Bones Roadhouse in Gualala- barbecue. For
fish tacos in San Francisco on Fridays are the taco trucks of El Tonayense. The restaurant dispatches
taco trucks to the Mission/SOMA area. www.eltonayense.com Have a great Trip!
