Help! with Shirahone

Has anyone recently traveled to Shirahone from Matsumoto? I want to take the train to Shin Shimashima, and then take the bus to Shirahone. But, but, but ... I found a road map of the area showing that the road into Shirahone is closed because of construction. Does that mean the bus does or doesn't run from Shin Shimashima to Shirahone right now?

I'd love any recommendation for a place to stay in Shirahone (everything seems to be frighteningly expensive.)

I went there a few months ago.
There was construction going on, so the usual road was closed, but there was another road to get in there via a detour. I drove though. Driving will be much easier in the countryside.
I hired the car from Matsumoto.

I stayed nearby at the base of Mount Norikura. This has ski slopes, so all the hotels are "lodges".
They are not too expensive.
I think I paid about 9000 per person but that includes a really massive dinner and breakfast.
