Cheapest flights - EU to USHi all!
My boyfriend and I would like to travel from Berlin Germany to the US over the holidays. Our plan is to fly to DC to see my family and then make a trip up to New York.
So we're looking for three options:
1) Berlin to DC to New York to DC to Berlin
2) Berlin to DC to Berlin (take a bus to and from DC and New York)
3) Berlin to DC to New York to Berlin
I would like recommendations for the best websites to look for cheap, multi destination travel. I've tried all the biggies so far and cheapest I found is British Airways for €729 (first option).
Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!!

1Do not fly between DC and xNYC.
The buses are very cheap, and given airport formalities and locations, don't take too much longer.
Here is my standard answer:
There is no set "cheapest airline." We don't have "low cost" airlines like in Europe or Asia--any airline may be the cheapest at any time, dependent on dates, routes, etc.
kayak.com, cheapoair, farecompare, mobissimo, vayama, priceline, expedia, travelocity, orbitz, hotwire, the individual airlines, etc., etc., etc.
Make sure you compare prices like for like (some show subtotals, others totals).
It will take a lot of effort on your part.
And don't expect cheap last minute fares. Prices go up as you get close to departure.
You may find fares cheaper if you fly to xNYC then bus to DC, rather than the reverse.

2I agree, train or bus between DC and NYC. Airports are mayhem that time year anyway.
This a great website to check airfares. I just discovered it last week and used it to find two flights from Chicago to Istanbul for $500 each PP....once I located the airlines/fares, I used Expedia to book the trip. The flights were not even offered at the price on the individual airline websites.
Keep in mind you can fly into/out of two airports at both cities, as Wash DC has Dulles and also Baltimore (BWI) and in NYC you have JFK and Newark NJ. Just use the all nearby airports options when searching.
This is a little late to be buying flights on the busiest weeks of the year for air travel between 3 of the most busy cities in the western hemisphere...
If you are not US Passport holders, please read up on the Visa requirements.

5When yoiu say, "over the holidays", do you mean the Thanksgiving Holidays, Christmas/New Years Holidays or holidays like in the word vacation? It would be helpful. if you gave the approximate dates. I don't know about international flights, but in the USA there are days around the Thankgiving and Christmas Holidays that are more expensive and you may also may have to reserve well in advance because of the demand that time of the year.

6If you would like to see both, try flying into one and flying out of the other. However, I agree with above, the buses between NYC and DC are cheap and with the hassle of flying (getting to the airport, getting there early, security, flying, getting to the destination's center once arrived), it'll be about the same amount of time anyway.
Bolt Bus does the route cheaply (you can book a ticket online and check in at the bus stop with a print out or a copy of the ticket on your phone). Also, look up Chinatown bus routes. It should be about $20 one way or so between NYC and DC.

8Been shopping the other direction and Berlin Air has some of the best fares I've seen. On the east coast, they fly only into JFK, I think. If you're starting from JFK with baggage, I'd fly to DC instead of bus/train. So check: Berlin Air to JFK. Domestic flight (Jet Blue?) JFK to DCA. Visit family. Surface transit to NY, then auf Wiedersehen.

9Thanks everyone for the myriad of responses!
For further detail, I myself am American and my boyfriend is German, so visa requirements aren't a problem (he can just come on a travel visa). And I have experience with this before as I always go home during this time (the Christmas season). I was just checking out there if anyone had other ideas on getting the cheapest ticket.
Back to my research...thanks again!
