leaving on oct 24 for 3 week... where to go?My friend and I had originally planned a 22 day trip to central america. her father told her 2 days ago that he would not allow her to go there because of safety issues. he's ok w south america or pretty much anywhere else and is willing to cover the cost of changing our plane tickets to go somewhere else for this period of time. we had each budgeted $1000USD for 22 days of travel, lodging, food and fun, so we need to stick to that budget somewhat. need quick ideas of where would be a good place to backpack around for 22 days and stick to our budget of $1000. Peru? Chile? Cuba? SE Asia? AUS? New Zealand? Please help us out! Where and Why??

1Would need a bit more info before giving helpful advice
1. What is your departure point....are these new flights to anywhere in world or just sticking to the America's.
2. What are your interests?
3. Is this 1000 just solely for day to day travel costs?
For 22 days with a 1000 each works out at approx $45 a day do straight away that will rule out places like most of western Europe, Oz, NZ, Brazil, Chile and Argentina
Places where you could travel on that budget would include Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador Venezuala in South America, India and South East Asia
Though after giving you a list of countries which you may plan to go to I better warn you or your friends dad that they are all as dangerous as Central America to travel in.........that is to say not dangerous at all as long as you have a bit of common sense

3On that budget and in October...and if he is really going to pay your tickets (from the US?) then I'd go with India.
Good way to get a decent trip in a country that is cheap to travel in but very expensive to get to.......

4I would have said Peru but what #3 said is spot on. Your money will go a long way and your flights are paid for. Everyones a winner. Ha ha. I'm not sure it is any safer than central America but hey ho.

5That would be funny, no - not C. America, but go ahead to Venezuela!!
The problem you may have with India is getting the visa in time. I'm not sure of the details though.
If he's happy to cover the flights and you want something similar to C. America you could go to Peru (the weather is starting to turn though in November) or you could go SEAsia.

9NZ is a great country to travel in.....however your original budget of $45 a day is not going to get you far......lucky for you, you & your friend seem to have a funder for the trip.....you will need to hit him for another at least another $600 each to cover your daily travel expenses.

11LOL, you're 30, is your friend over 18? If so, what has her Father got to do with anything? Do the words, 'I'm an adult and make my own decisions' ring any bells?
Now you say NZ for 22 days on $1000 with her daddy paying the extra flight cost. Her daddy sounds like an idiot but ignoring that, your budget just isn't going to cut it at all in NZ. Not unless you plan to do nothing but sit in one hostel and eat noodles for the entire 22 days.
