Well, in a few years this won't be a problem, anyway. I clicked around and saw that they've just introduced the first 256GB SD card, at $900 a pop. In another couple years they'll be down to $100 or $150, at which point we'll see the first 512GB cards. As someone whose first home computer was a used IBM with a "gigantic" 20MB hard drive (bought in 1988), the explosion of data storage capacity continues to blow me away. I remember buying my first digital camera in 2003. It came with a 16MB flash card, so I spent another $125 for a "gigantic" 128MB flash card. Now you can get 1,000 times the capacity for the same price.

OP, how about describing this "media player" of yours? What brand and model? I've never heard of a dedicated player with a 2TB hard drive, so I am curious.

But my question is, Are you coming to the US for a long time or for just a short visit? Is this business or pleasure?

willysnoutredux, mine is the AC Ryan HD2 with a maximum capacity of 2TB. If you want a higher capacity then there's Asus O!Play TV Pro which supports up to 3TB. The former has a latest model which can convert your 2D movie content into 3D.

Websterella, I'll be in the US for good.

This is a whole category of computer box that I was completely unaware of. But I looked it up and saw it's got a removable hard drive. This ought to be pretty obvious. You make a backup copy and leave it at home with a friend. You remove the drive and put it in your carryon bag. You put the player in your checked bag. If the drive gets confiscated, you have your friend make another backup copy and then send you one of the drives. If that gets seized, you figure out some other way, or you just give up.

as much as I enjoy movies.... why would you want to waste you vacation by watching movies? I took a bunch to watch on my trip to S.E. Asia and only watched about 6. 3 on the flight over and 3 on the way back. Just sitting on the street corner people watching was way more entertaining than any movie. By not bringing them it may force you to find some fun things to do.

See #18. It's not a vacation.
