What to do and see - 9 days in Puerto Rico!?We just had some friends return from Puerto Rico and told us we have got to go down there. When I asked what to do they kind of just said everything us super fun - do it all. Well unfortunately I like to plan a little more than that and since we only have 8-9 days I want to start making a plan.
After we fly into San Juan where should we go (cities, towns, islands, etc)?
What are some MUST DO things while in Puerto Rico?
Is English spoken widely (since it's technically part of USA)? US Dollar accepted?
What are some things to watch out for (I heard crime rate is high and San Juan is kind of dangerous)?

1Here's any and everything to start planning. Most everything can be done based from the San Juan metro area, but you'll need a rental car.
Yes, U.S. $ and English usually spoken but lessens in rural areas.
As a 'tourist' crime should not be an issue with usage of any 'common sense.'

2Hey thcguy, I see you need some more tropics chronic. If you liked Costa Rica, you'd probably like Vieques. We were happy with what we did: proceed immediately to Vieques, then Old San Juan for the last couple of nights.
U.S. dollars are more than the "commonly used" currency. They're the legal tender.

3You should do the rain forest zip line because it is like doing 2 things at once as they do a whole rain forest guide before the zip line.
the cave swimming and tubing is suppose to be amazing.
The luminescent bay tour is very cool and an evening excursion. Try to take the boat out on the bay and not the kayak as we heard that was sort of a drag. On the boat we had dinner, drinks and didn't have to do any work and it was only $30.00.
Most of the people speak at least some English but not nearly as much as I thought they would. We were refused service at KFC because we did not speak Spanish even though the menu was bilingual and they were very rude to us there.
It is beautiful there and I loved Old Puerto Rico but I was really surprised how unwelcoming they were and really sort of rude.
The Ron Bacardi factory is fun and it is free plus free drinks.
Take the Catamaran out for the snorkeling adventure with the lunch and free drinks, it is about a 4 hour trip for about $69.00. Very fun.
Be careful at night, there are cops everywhere and you will be shocked when you see what I am talking about. Also the people drive horrible and make Mexico look like a bunch of old ladies driving. lol. There have been around 500 and some homicides there just this year and so just be careful,
