Sydney or Brisbane

My buddy and I are planning a 2 week trip to Australia in Feb. I am looking for some opinions on what city would be better to visit for that limited amount of time. I am looking to spend quite a bit of time either at the beach or on outdoor events and definitely checking out the night life. We are both in our 30's. I've got hotel points and at least 10 days will be spent in the same hotel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Brisbane doesn't have a beach, if that helps. Well, it has mud flats, but for an actual swimming beach you need to go to Bribie island (90 mins north) or one off the offshore islands (expensive boat trip) or the Gold Coast (hour or so south).
All the above options have great beaches, BUT they're not Brisbane, and if you just want to hang around a beach, Sydney cannot be beat. Also, in February, weather should be better in Sydney.

This one's easy - go for sydney. Brisbane's pleasant enough, but sydney has so much more to do. If you do decide on brisbane regardless, go to fortitude valley for nightlife, or alternatively the gold coast (1 hr south of brisbane). As has been said, brisbane itself has no beaches.

My Dad used to be a mad hippie surfer and basicially lived between the two cities. Many beautiful places along the way, but of course you'll need a car.

if not locked in give brissie a pass. for what you say Adelaide fits the bill. nicely. tram ride to beach and back to rundle street for nightlife etc.

Plus nightlife in Adelaide is one street if you are lucky. ;)

poppa wasn't hometown boosting. He comes from Missisagua where the waves are smaller than those in Adelaide and the sand is even darker.

Another vote for Sydney for all of the above reasons, but if you can use your hotel points along the coast #3's suggestion is a good one.

I think I'll go with Sydney. It seems to be cheaper to fly there than the other options. The Gold Coast seems like it would be perfect for me but it is quite a bit more, both in points and flight. Can you guys recommend a GOOD dive company around Sydney and a couple of night spots to go to? Any places to tour that are a "must not miss"??

I understand that to tour a city is not to see Australia but I'm limited and I'd rather have a little slice of Australia than non at all.
