Christmas 2012 and New Year - but where?
HiI've posted in Travel Companions under the above subject line but, since it seems that those who may be interested in travelling with me hang out in this forum, I thought I'd put a brief summary here. (Yes, I have travelled alone and had some great times, but find I prefer travelling with one or two others.) Looking to head off somewhere hot and sunny for Christmas and, possibly, New Year. I've previously spent some time in South East Asia and Indian Ocean, so was wondering this time about the Pacific or parts of Africa, although I am genuinely open to other suggestions.
I've posted a fairly full profile under my User ID but, in brief, male, 60, from the UK who prefers travelling light.
If you are/may be interested, please message me.

Ethiopia has a pleasant climate, temperature about 20-24 year round. Many people go there around Christmas, for the Ethiopian Christmas, which is a little later than ours. But it's not over-run with tourists (yet). It's a fascinating country.
Suggest you take a look on the Ethiopian section of the Africa branch, as there are often people wanting to team up with others to save 4WD costs on travel to certain parts of the country.

Am travelling from Europe to Tahiti/Moorea end Dec/beg Jan, am going alone so would be cool to meet up with fellow traveller. Send private message for more info (must warn you though, it's high season and quite expensive)S:)

siriydstie, I recommend you cross-post that to the Pacific Islands branch, where you are likely to find more people heading in that direction.5
Sorry, I've been away from this site for the last couple of weeks or so and so not picked up on your various replies. Thanks for these, and I'll look at both Ethiopia and Tahiti - both places I have thought about in the past - and Tahiti especially after seeing the Gauguin Exhibition in London.Yes, I recognise that going away at that time of year will be more expensive - but that will be the same wherever I go - and since I have no children to leave it to and can't take it with me - I might as well enjoy it (well, in moderation, of course).
