The very best seat on the train is the open doorway on SL class. The only time I went AC, the door was locked closed during travel.

Geoff - I suspect that this is very much a minority (a minority of one) view, maybe valid for a short daytime trip without a backpack but one would not want to do it on a longer overniter.
