volunteer at an NGO / charity in Barcelona, Valencia or Malaga
Hi, can anyone recommend a good place to volunteer in Barcelona, Valencia or Malaga? I am mostly interested in construction projects like Habitat for Humanity, but my wife is interested in anything medical (she is a Doctor) or animal related. We are open to anything, but we are not open to paying to do it. I am not having much luck on google. Any help is appreciated.1
I don't know how long you pretend to volunteer in Spain and I'm not an expert in the legal requirements but be aware you'll probably need a visa in order to make it in Spain.I assume you know Spanish. In Barcelona and Valencia, Catalan could be also necessary.
This web could be useful to look for volunteer oportunities.
In the Health area, you can take a look also at the web of Cruz Roja (among others).

I assume as long as you don't get any payment (including paymnet in kind like food or accommodation) you should be ok.That could be to assume too much. I know there are specific visas for people that come to Spain to volunteer but I don't know if you need them always or only if you volunteer more than a legally specified time. In order to avoid (potential) problems, you should get in touch with your nearest embassy/consulate of Spain in order to get info about this point.

Since there aren't many responses, I figured I would post some links to charities that were recommended to me elsewhere. Maybe other thorntree people will find them useful down the road. These are all in Valencia.
