2 hours between flights @ IST Is that enough time?Hi everyone
Just a quick question?
Our first time to Turkey and we are flying from Paris on an air France flight to Istanbul's Ataturk airport arriving 14:40 and I am in the process of booking an Atlas jet flight from there to Izmir. I can either take the 16:30 flight (2 hrs later) or the 19:50 (5 hrs later)
Needless to say the 16:30 flight would seem to be the best option but does the 2 hrs give me enough time to disembark and get through customs and find my way to domestic departures?
I am assuming that 2 hrs is plenty of time but would hate to be wrong and miss my flight to Izmir. On the other hand I hate the idea of having to hang around the airport for 5 hrs and arrive in Selcuk so late at night.
So to those in the know, Is 2 hours between flights enough time at IST??
Thanks so much

1I have the same situation--connecting on to Izmir-- and my travel agent who has done it lots of times sounded nervous about having only two hours. In addition to customs there is also a separate line for entry tax. It is a drag since you will be tired but you may want to leave yourself the (overly) extra time. Good luck!

2Frankly 2 hours is cutting it a little fine IMHO.In theory it may seem fine but you need to be at check in 1 hour before take off so you only have an hour.In this hour you need to go and queue for your visa and then clear passport control and then collect your luggage and then go to domestic departures. There is also the chance that your flight could arrive late too.
The length of the visa queue depends on how many flights land together and can vary from 15-30 minutes so consider politely elbowing and pushing everyone out of the way as you run off the plane.Pray your bags are first off not last and then run like mad to domestic departures-this is roughly 10-15 minutes walk.
Have you checked other airlines for flights just a little later than this one?Other carriers include Turkish Airlines,Onurair and Pegasus.
I appreciate this is tempting but I would feel inclined to wait for a later flight even if it was just a little more expensive.

3we are flying from Paris on an air France flight to Istanbul's Ataturk airport arriving 14:40
There's a relevant nuance to that sentence: you are flying from Paris on an Air France flight to Istambul's Ataturk airport scheduled to arrive at 14:40. Nobody can guarantee that particular flight won't be (heavily) delayed (or even cancelled) on your travel date...
BTW, even if your Air France's flight is on time, you don't have 2 hours but 1h 50m.

5thank you Sarikanarya
Atlas check in is 30 mins if you check in online so that would save me 30 mins.
Also I went with Atlas due to the greater luggage allowance and the free shuttle to Selcuk but I will check some of the other airlines you mentioned.
Does anyone know what the rules are if I miss the flight due to Air France being late?
