luggage size restriction on the bus

hi guys,

i am booking travel from SF Fishermans Wharf hostel to the yosemitebug hostel on Amtrak and the trip is in 3 stretches, all bus.

Now for 2 stretches the Amtrak site says 'no checked luggage' and clicking on that reveals that you may take 2 pieces as hand luggage of certain L x W x H dimensions. No i have one suitcase which is 1 inch taller, but 3 inches more narrow then this max sizes, and one backpack which is much smaller in all dimensions.

I just wonder if the driver will make a problem out of this. eg if he has a box near the entry where i have to fit in the luggage before entering then this won't succeed. If he looks at the total volume and uses 1% common sense then i see no reason to make an issue out of this.

Anyone has experience how this goes?
many thanks
Arjan

This might help. It seems to say that there are no facilities to check your luggage in, but you can carry/wheel it to the bus and the driver will put it in the bins underneath.

That does help to get a picture .. thanks! So they're reasonable on the size restrictions?

Yes, they are reasonable. If you were trying to bring a flat-screen TV on a bus they might stop you, but they won't measure your suitcase.
