California to India
Please Advise,This is a pretty general post as I'm not visiting India until January 2013. I will be traveling from California and wonder which airport is best to fly into. I know I want to do the golden triangle and Varanasi. I'd like to get to Mysore and Bangalore and maybe Goa. Looks to my like that might be pushing it for only a three week trip.
What are some must see Indian experiences? I'd like to do a camel safari, a trek and maybe a 10-15 hour Indian train ride.
Recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Kindly from California

There is no such thing as a must see Indian experience. There are probably experiences that you should see, but without knowing your travel objectives and priorities we can't offer accurate advice. You're correct; what you have listed is too aggresive for a three week trip. Delhi and Agra are generally in the north central part of the country, Varanasi is to the east, Rajasthan extends to the west and northwest, Goa and other areas are to the south. You've listed geographical areas as diverse as Miami, Seattle, Phoenix and Boston. You can't see all that in just three weeks.
Pick one or two regions and see them.
Good luck.

January is a good time to travel to India and it is not too early to plan. I think you should skip Mysore and Bangalore since you only have 3 weeks.
Delhi will be best to fly in and you should be able to do Delhi, Agra and some of Rajasthan and Varanasi and Goa in three weeks.

For me a train ride is a must experience for travel in India.

You are from California..Skip Goa.You will be disappointed. It seems you have a northern trip planned...And some southern highlights..One or the other. Not both. You do not have the time.So many jokers come over here with a trip plan of 1 city a day for 3 weeks....YES,they were in India but they missed the whole trip...You should start looking for ideas of where you will stay the first nite or two when you land.It will make you feel better on the plane before you land.It is also time to buy your tickets too.4
Fly into Delhi and skip the south as suggested above, too much with too little time. Maybe Goa if you were to fly Jaipur-Goa, but know that rates have soared and it`s getting to be not worth it to fly. You`re familiar enough with Thorn Tree now to know the drill. Set up an itinerary for yourself and ask us what we think. Will be easier to give you tips if you get more specific.
And plan to spend at minimum 1 day getting over jet lag when you land - long damn flight from California. Find a room to book ahead in Delhi - if you find a good one, they can help arrange the next leg of your trip.
