Which tent to choose to cycle from China to South Africa

I am currently planning a trip from China to South Africa by bicycle and using a tent for most of the trip. I will have several climate but a lot of desert and thus probably windy. I will also have to bike to about 4 000m altitude. At some other places it would be warm and damp. I am just unsure what tent to choose. A 3 season or a 4 season? Not too heavy and easy to install. Probably for 2 to be able to bring my paniers inside for the nights. Only using few pegs. A vestibule. Not necessarly very bright (orange). Any suggestion?

Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT. Under 3 kg but with vestibule big enough for you whole bike.

Where are you from?

For a trip like this I would only look at top end tents, it will be your home for months.

If you want to bring the bike inside of the vestibule you will be limited to tunnel tents, infact you are probably limited to the Hilleberg mentioned above and the Lightwave T2 ultra xt (only available in NW Europe), both are outstanding tents.

However they are tunnel tents so need to to be pitched well, with lots of pegs, to maintain there shape and strength.

If you are happy to leave the bike outside of the tent I get the feeling a freestanding tent will suit you more.

Take a look at the Hilleberg tent range. In addition to the Nallo 3 look at the Rogen and the Soulo. The Rogen for space and the Soulo for bombproof strength.

I am more familiar (and biased towards) with European brands (and Macpac).

A few brands I like are:

Macpac
Exped
Terra Nova
Vaude
Tarptent

Hi

A Terra Nova Voyager XL might just have a big enough porch for a bike.

If it's not essential to have the bike inside (and it probably is) Tarptent Scarp 1 and 2 both have great space to weight ratio.

Can't go wrong with a Hilleberg...
