54That's pretty much how I do it Usher. A friend of mine showed me how he stabs the pit and pulls it out but I find it's less dangerous for me to just gently stab the butt of the pit and twist or pull it out, depending out what gets it out the best.
Sorry GE - no clue. You might want to post an OP about it here or on the London branch. It's quite possible that someone with the answer just isn't on this thread.

55I've had good luck prying out pits with a fingernail, but I don't see it recommended anywhere, so maybe I just lucked into figuring out the technique.
I forgot one thing that I have missed for a long time, but just recently was able to get here. Melons from Central Asia. I posted about them in another thread:
I ran into a gem today. Uzbek melon. That picture was taken in Uzbekistan; I chose it because it shows the melon size and interior.
I had these melons in Central Asia and found them wonderful--very sweet, very melon-y. The ones I ran into were grown in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Some Central Asia and Armenian immigrants are trying to establish a market for them.
One big problem is that they are huge. But the store that was selling them also had melon cubes for sale. I bought enough for 2 servings for US $1.25. Ambrosia! [after I posted that, they began to sell quarters of cut melons. Just bought one a couple of days ago.]
Given that the melon is pale & watery, I doubt it has much in the way of nutrition except sugar, electrolytes and water. Of course, in the deserts of Central Asia, all that could be pretty important.

56I used to use my fingernails but I've found that stabbing works better.
Thanks for the reminder nex! A neighbor gave us melons he grew in his garden. They were quite good but I still have one in the fridge (must have migrated to the back) and I need to see if it's still good. We got into eating grapes for awhile and forgot about the melon.
