Addis Ababa railway station

Is the station still there? I see it was to be demolished for a road scheme.

My latest information was that the only train that was running in Ethiopia was from Addis Abeba to Djibouti, and even that one was suspended between Addis Abeba and Dire Dawa.

Yup - I know there are no trains but I'm concerned about the station building - is it still there?

The building is still there but the trains stopped running years ago. Now even the long distance busses that used to head south from there use a terminal that is on the outskirts of town. There are plans for a new railway and the way things have been happening here the last decade, it should become a reality. However, the plans are to build a new railway station on the outskirts of town.

It remains to be seen what will happen to the old station. It is an architecturally beautiful building. While there has been a lot of good development in the last 10 years, the sad thing is that many historic buildings and building that had great architecture history have been torn down to make way for high-rise office buildings.
