no more greyhound pass :(

For both USA and Canada. Any idea how can I travel to remote destinations as Whitehorse and Yellowknife for example, on budget. On greyhound website I can't even find and schedule for these places. If anyone is experienced I would really need a help about organizing this.

It could be worth asking at a greyhound counter in person, I don't recall the 'Go Anywhere' pass ever being available as an option to pick on the website.

Although I've also seen no signs/advertisements for it recently either - but ask in person, it could still exist.

Hey!

I just drove to whistler from whitehorse and back, its a looooong way!

http://www.flyairnorth.com/

These guys regularly have flights for $300 to whitehorse seems like a good deal to me!

From Greyhound:
Effective Sept. 30, the Discovery Pass is no longer available.

On greyhound website I can't even find and schedule for these places
Greyhound goes to xWhitehorse, but not xYellowknife.
You must book international legs (where you start in one country and end in another) by phone or in person. For domestic legs, just make sure you are on the right version of the website (US or xCanada).

Just out of curiosity on the greyhound site I looked up a 1-way ticket from Toronto to Whitehorse. With a 14-day advance purchase the ticket is only $202. That's not too bad really. So even if there's no Discovery Pass anymore it seems extremely long distance trips are reduced in price relative to the distance.

I couldn't do 4-5 days on the bus, that would suck.

yes, 14 days in advance is the only way to travel cheaply on the bus. Otherwise if you are going a long distance you are better off flying.

you could always try to find someone who is driving there and split fuel costs.

Between $202 (+ cost of food for the duration of the journey) for spending 4-5 days on a Greyhound bus, and a $300 flight, I know which one I would go for.

Sorry I made a mistake. I thought I can't find schedule for Hay River.

It's not only the price, but also experience. Maybe one way by bus, another flying.

Bus service to Hay River from Edmonton was cancelled in October 2011. There is no way to get to YK by bus. Once in YK there is bus service to Fort Simpson and Hay River and point in between

Depends on your sense of adventure of course, but I hitchhiked up to Yellowknife this summer - that's a budget choice! Toronto to Yellowknife for probably about $100 on grocery store food (10 days).

For Whitehorse, try Air North - flyairnorth.com
They have deals, e.g. from Vancouver to Yukon with 2 nights accommodation is currently $579.
Sure beats hours and hours on a bus.
