Planning a trip to Romania in November - tips?Hi everyone,
So I'm currently living in Central Europe and have a week's holiday, so am considering heading for 4-5 days in Romania (the flights are so cheap!) Does anyone have any tips of what to see and do, where to stay etc? I'm thinking of flying into Bucharest on the 1st November and maybe travelling around a bit - I don't know Romania at all, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

1What are your interests regarding Romania: historical places, lifestyle, landscapes? because you can see any of these in Romania.

2Thanks for the reply ThiessC - I don't really mind. It would be nice to see some of the countryside or the coast, but also some old historic places etc. I don't really know the best places to see these things in Romania, so any tips would be great! I'm probably going to be in Bucharest for at least a day - is there much to see there??

4One day in Bucharest might be enough for Parliament House (casa poporului) , Village museum (muzeul satului) , Herastrau and Cismigiu Park .
One day you can visit castles in southern Transylvania (Peles in Sinaia , Rasnov and Bran).
And you'll have time for a walk to the Black Sea.

6Bran, Sinaia, Sighisoara and Sibiu (the European Capital of Culture in 2007) are a must see in Transylvania. These have castles or fortifications, so if you are into history you will love it. For nightlife, Bucharest of course, but If in Transylvania Cluj is pretty great as well. If you'd like to explore the religious part of Romania, you can check out the beautiful monasteries in Maramures and/or Bucovina (Maramures is well-know for its picturesque landscape and wooden culture as well).
There are are really a lot to see in Romania and if still not very sure about an itinerary, depending on your budget you could opt for a sightseeing tour. I don't know many tour operators, but after a quick search I found this: http://www.activeholidays.ro/tours-page-en/sightseeing-tours-in-romania
Have a great holiday by the way!

7My husband and I just spent a week in Romania and loved it. I wouldn't waste time in Bucharest though. The area north of Brasov (including Brasov) is awesome - Transylvania is just incredible and so are the painted monasteries in Bucovina. We rented a car for a good price from the airport and drove around and stayed in pensions. Although gas is pricey, the flexibility of having a car especially when you are on a tight schedule and want to stop and take pictures was definitely worth it for us. Check out our recent write-up from our trip through Romania that includes some more info, stories, and tips. Happy, safe travels!
