San Francisco - airport to Japan Town

I'll be flying into San Francisco next week and am debating taking a taxi to my hotel or public transit. It will be mid-afternoon. I'm staying at the Hotel Kabuki in Japan Town. How easy is it to get there by bus or train? Any chance that there's a way that doesn't involve transfering?

The Hotel Kabuki is upscale enough that it might be worthwhile calling them to see if they offer airport transportation.

You can use 511.org to see what transit options are available. All the ones I saw include a transfer from BART to a bus.

You can take a shared shuttle You won't have to transfer, but you may have to ride around for a wile while it makes other stops. Will probably be cheaper than a taxi.

The downside of a cab would be hitting traffic (I'm assuming you're fine with paying for a cab). If you take the subway - BART, you would need to get off at Montgomery and then take a bus down Geary (any of the 38 buses). BART stops all have maps of the surrounding area if you need to get your bearings in order to find Geary.

You could also combine BART with a taxi. I don't think walking from a BART stop makes much sense.

Since the Kabuki is not by Union Station and a lot of other hotels, you might be last one dropped off by a shuttle, but one never knows.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not concerned about the cost, just looking for the simplest way. I kind of enjoy taking public transit in other cities which is why I was asking about the train/bus, but I'll have luggage so not really interested in having to transfer along the way. I'll probably just take a cab in, and maybe take BART back out to the airport when I leave.

Hope it warms up a bit there by next week - although it's sunny it looks like it's a bit chilly there at the moment...

Sorry, extended forecast is for cool & foggy, or cool & partly cloudy. Highs around 12-14 and lows only a few degrees cooler. The closer you are to the Pacific Ocean, the cooler it will be.

Bring a nice sweater to stay warm. It's a great city but it is by the Pacific. Taxi in, bus and BART back to SFO.

The simplest way is by taxi.

Taking transit will require a transfer: BART to Montgomery St, then the 38-Geary to Laguna St, one block away from your hotel.

No hotels in San Francisco have dedicated shuttle buses or 'included hotel transportation'. (Well, maybe if you are Obama or Romney :~)

As nutraxfornerves says, a shared shuttle may be an option, but they often hang around the airport, circling until they fill up and then your hotel may be their last drop off, so that can be very time consuming.

Another factor is how many will be in your party. Shuttles usually charge around $18/pp. A taxi will cost, ballpark figure, $50, maybe, tip included.

Yes you can take BART...$8.50 pp, carry your luggage, You would get off at the Civic Center Station and have to take a taxi from there, probably not very expensive, to your hotel. However, the Civic Center BART station is not a place taxis hang around. Homeless do.

Seriously, I would take a taxi if I were doing it.
