South Korea November-December 2012

Hi!

I am planning to go to South Korea at end of november to start of December for 1 and a half weeks. It's my first time and I'm going solo. I need some suggestions on my itinerary and maybe suggestions on what to do and see. For photography I love landscapes, streetscapes cityscapes. For just sightseeing and stuff, I like art museums, culture places, and just anything you think awesome in general.

Nov 26-Dec 3: Seoul + daytrip to Suwon
Dec 4-5: Gyeongju
Dec 6-8: Busan
Dec 9: fly out

Any budget travel tips? Also how long and how much is train from Seoul to Gyeongju?

Thanks,

Ken

Your itinerary looks alright for ten days. I'm assuming you're planning to visit DMZ. Do it with USO. You need to book a couple of days in advance and they need to receive your payment 24 hrs before the tour.
Train Seoul to Gyeongju is under 4 hrs, or about 5 hrs by slower train.
There're busses and trains. Trains, especially KTX, are more expensive. Busses are very comfortable, with much space.

For the best views (and photos) of the city, Namsan is probably the place to go. If you walk up the mountain there's a few good photo spots on the way as well as at the top. The views over the city at dusk are beautiful! Some of the palaces and shrines (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung and Jongmyo are my personal favourites!) are also good for photos and soaking up a bit of Korean culture. DMZ is definitely a good idea too! Have a good trip! :)

Thanks for the replies.

@Fieldgate: how long does the buses take? I probably will take KTX to save time. Also I couldnt find the link where to book the tour with USO, do you just email them about it?

@amyinwonderland89: Would it be really dark and hard to get back down after dusk? Just making sure. And yes I'm going to see the palaces and shrines! :) Also is DMZ really worth a whole day trip? I'll consider it. and thank you.

I travelled Seoul-Gyeongju on KTX train only. Can't say how long a bus trip takes. But, I travelled on busses on other routes. Really comfortable, first class journey. Anyway, since distances aren't so long you can let time tables decide what to choose.
For USO tours you can use this link.
