Spanish Classes in South America
My girlfriend and I are planning a 10 month trip to South America starting in March 2013. Our plan is to start in Bogota, Columbia and work our way around the continent. Currently our plan is to spend about a month in Bogota taking spanish classes and using the city as a base from which to explore areas in Columbia somewhat near to Bogota. Basically I'm wondering if it's a mistake to spend so much time in Bogota (1/10th of the whole trip). Is there a better place to take spanish classes? Are there enough places near Bogota to check out on day/weekend trips? We'd like to take classes early on in the trip so doing it in Columbia makes sense. If it helps, I am 30 and my gf is 27. We will be couchsurfing a decent amount of the time and we like going out for food/drinks, socializing with other travelers and locals, seeing museums, ruins and getting to know the cultural intricacies of different places, and love hiking/swimming/kayaking etc.
Any feedback would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Depends, do you like big cities? Bogota is a huge metropolis. Plenty of good opportunity for nightlife, restaurants etc. There are other good options in Colombia too, Medillin springs to mind. Why not just rock and and spend a few days in Bogota to decide if you like it.If you are on a tight budget Ecuador will be much cheaper to live and study. But obviously the sooner you learn the language the better.
