What has happened to all the young european backpackers

I dont see many young european backpackers in southern mexico anymore. whats happened. ??

Europe is going broke. The Euro-zone is struggling to bail out Greece, Spain, Italy and Portugal. Also, folks are struggling to find jobs there too and it is EXPENSIVE to live in Europe.

Yes, Europe is broke (parts are, that is), the security situation in Mexico scares-off not only Yankees and Cannucks ... but others as well .. and I never thought many "backpackers" traveled in Mexico in recent years. It's an overused and misunderstood description, IMO. You'll find remnants of this ilk of traveler along the rough hewn areas of coastal Michoacan, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas ... however.

Whenever I am in Mountain Mexican I see some of these guys easily spotting them as they are the only ones wearing short pants.

They were eaten by Tlaltecuhtli because she got sick of them putting Sun Stone tattoos on their backs and calling them Mayan Calendars.

I have noticed a large reduction in backpackers here in San Cristobal de las Casas which is a destination for them. That would mean a big reduction in Guatemala. Maybe they are waiting for the big party on 12..21...12

Eh, yeah. Try SE Asia. Viet Nam is just one long gringo trail, although there it's mostlly Aussies. Seem to be a lot more Europies here in Thailand.
