I am planning my honeymoon for late May of 2013 and am looking at spending a week or two diving in PNG. Can anybody speak to the quality of the diving there and have any recommendations? I have also considered Solomon Islands but since it is our honeymoon am looking for a few more comforts etc. which seems to make Solomon less of a fit. Has anybody dove in both, which is better? I am also open to new ideas as I am really just exploring options right now. I have heard that PNG and Solomon are actually better than Palau which is why I am focusing my attention there, but if anybody has differing views i would love to hear them!
I would consider Indonesia but fiance has been there so would rather go somewhere neither of us have been (which leaves the rest of the south pacific open!).
Cost is not a big issue but we would like to avoid overly pretentious and expensive destinations ie bora bora etc.
Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide!

I've dived Kavieng in Papua New Guinea. It was superb wilderness diving - unspoilt, plenty of big marine life, no other divers, it compares favourably with Palau, Maldives and Raja Ampat. Stayed at Nusa Island Resort and dived with Scuba Kavieng. I also contemplated diving Madang and Rabaul but never got around to it. I would love to go back but flights to Port Moresby plus the internal flights are so expensive. I believe there are high standard liveaboards too which may be worth considering as there is so much good diving in PNG.2
I just got back from Papua New Guinea last Tuesday and wow! This was my 3rd time up there. Actually I'am based in Cairns in Australia so is easy to get up to PNG from here about 1:45min flight. I have spent bit of time out in TUFI its about a 45min flight from Port Moresby and the resort itself is Absolutely beautiful. Goto there website and have a look they have a facebook & youtube channel they post up photos and stuff. TUFI Resort. There is fantastic muck diving straight under the wharf on the house reef then once you have explored there you have the fjord reefs to explore then the outer reef about 30 / 40 mins off shore with big walls 30+. Pelagic's, Sharks, Octopus, Crayfish, they have a resident white hammerhead shark although she didn't come out and play when I was there.
PNG I think is the last final frontier and I really think you will be well surprised! Have an awesome time wherever you go !! :) Good luck with all the wedding planning!

HiI've dived Solomons, PNG & Palau.
I have dived PNG & Palau twice
For a honeymoon - with all the comforts - then I would pick Palau
Tufi is a very nice resort - but you have mosis after 5pm, & you are 'trapped' there - there's nothing other than the resort - whereas if you were to stay at one of the major resorts in Palau, you could get a taxi out into town
Solomons is much the same as PNG - even less divers in Sols than PNG
