arriving in Hobart from a foreign country and going through immigration

Wiki says that currently there is only one way you can arrive in Hobart from some other 'country' - although it isn't a country - and that's Antarctica.

has anyone ever done this? Gone to Antarctica and then turned up in Hobart, and gone through Aussie immigration?

Jetstar calls itself as going to Hobart International Airport.

But am sure they can accommodate the OP with prior notice. Telling them you don't have a passport and you are not an Aust Citizen too.

Quite a few ships arrive in Hobart with foreign passengers on board- so there must be a passport control process in place.

Wiki also says that there was formerly a New Zealand flight, presumably some foreign passport holders must have taken that.

The flight from Noo Zillan was a scenic flyover from memory.

A friend of mine told me she once got a return flight from Hobart to NZ to go skiing.

I think it only lasted a couple of seasons.....

There used to be a summer NZ-Hobart flight but I think the paint on the 'International' part of the sign was barely dry before it got pulled. It may been so far back it was Australian or Ansett (did Ansett or Australian ever do international?) who did it.

Ansett did international - no idea if they went to Hobart though. The scenic flyover on Antarctica ended with the Mt Erebus crash in 1977. You can clear customs in several ports in Tasmania.

Ansett definitely did Hobart, don't know if they did Hobart NZ.

Of course there are customs, immigration & quarantine at Hobart's harbour. However the only people likely to have come from another country via Antarctica would be intrepid yachting types, & possibly active members of Greenpeace & Sea Shepherd.

I assume that since there are no immigration controls on Antarctica you would be treated as having come from the last recognised country you visited.

It was Air NZ that did HBA > AKL.

There will be immi at the int shipping term but not at tge airport if no special flight expected.

Only Jetstar does it tho, none of the other airlines do it.

Unless the OP us part of a scientific group, I dont think it will work. As the Dr Dog says, no.

If no Jetstar flight, probablly no Aust Govt employee will be there.

It seems Skytraders has flights from Hobart to Antarctica (source) but it also seems they aren't available for tourists (source)...

I went to New Zealand with my parents back in 1988 and we flew direct from Hobart to Christchurch on Air New Zealand.
