Hotel Recommendation for La Paz

Hello, taking a 11 day holiday in Bolivia in mid/late November. Planning a day on the front and back end, first day in La Paz is intended to be light and acclimate with a very early am arrival (4am) so despite being a budget traveler my travel partner and I are willing to pay a little more than normal for nicer lodging where we can book ahead of time and possibly check in early. So looking for any recos in the 3-4 star range in La Paz, 70-100 USD price range or any other strongly recommended lodging options, thanks

I highly recommend the Hotel Rosario, on Illampu just a short ways from Sagarnaga. Right around $70/night, cable TV and space heaters included, very nice bathrooms and really comfortable beds. The staff is wonderfully attentive, there's a good restaurant and an internet cafe on the roof that looks out at Illimani. My wife and I spent a solid 10 days there overall as a resting-up base while recovering from food poisoning and travel exhaustion and the other things that catch up with you while traveling in Bolivia.

The hotel has a 24-hour door guard; that stretch of Illampu is supposedly sketchy after about 11pm (I was never out late enough to see for myself), so have your cab take you right to the door. They handle a lot of well-healed domestic travelers and older foreign (mostly European) tourists, so are well equipped to take reservations, cards, and be ready for early a.m. arrivals.

I can vouch for aslukas's review above. I just got back from Bolivia and stayed at Hotel Rosario. The staff went above and beyond. Our room was $80 I think. The daily breakfasts were very delicious as well (pancakes, french toast, toast, juice, fresh fruit, and made to order eggs). I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Make sure you set aside a good amount of time acclimating. One of our friends suffered from a pretty extreme case and had the hotel provide an oxygen tank (for a fee). Enjoy!
