From Kigali Airport to the Kagera Region
Hey everyone! In two weeks I'll be landing in Kigali. I am going to do an internship in an NGO called Mavuno which is located in Karagwe (Kagera Region) in Tanzania. I was wondering if you have any advice for the transit from Rwanda to Tanzania. I was also wondering if it was possible to organise such a travel in advance, maybe through a travel agency or something?
Hope to hear from your experiences!
Cheers,
Clemkoe

The border crossing is at Rusumo. I'm sure there are several busses every day. Ask at your hotel, the airport or a taxi driver or just go to the main bus stand. The Tanzanian visa can be obtained at the border (at least for EU citizens - USD 50 for 3 months). They might ask for a yellow fever certificate.2
Public transport in the Kagera district of Tanzania is sketchy, unreliable and always extremely overcrowded. Buses and daladalas are thin on the ground and far between (this summer i had to wait 2 extra days in Bukoba before a bus to Biharamulo finally materialised). If you chose go via Rusumo your chances of getting stranded are pretty high. The safest and fastest route is via Uganda. There is 1 daily bus connecting Kampala and Bukoba. Between Kigali and Kampala there are frequent departures.
