Going to Cuba for the music?

I visited Cuba for a month in the summer 2008. I arrived in Santiago de Cuba a week before the Carnival. There is a striking difference between west and east Cuba. The west Cuba is more Spanish while east Cuba is more Caribbean. I recommend anyone thinking about going to Cuba to include both parts in their travel planning if time allows. In Santiago de Cuba everything is about music particularly around the Carnival. I have a couple of blog post about this at my blog there one can find pictures and some travel ideas.

Hi Sweb - how fascinating to see your pix of the musicians from above - and I love your street musicians, that was an inspired scene-setter. I am now at home in Australia, and missing so much the vitality of Santiago and the total immersion in music. Though I don't necessarily agree that Moreno Son is the best group in Stgo!!!! My favourite is Ecos del Tivolí, but Son de Buena Fe is terrific too, and the small group setting in la Casa de las Tradiciones gives some gems to the world. Cañambu, for example.

Thanks for the pix - and what was the song, anyway? You can't leave me guessing......

#1 Thank you very much!

#2 The song was Regueton! Thank you for your comment on this post. You have some nice blog posts about Cuba yourself. After all we have shared the amazing music of Santiago. Almost every Cubans would like to be a musician but almost no one can make a living on music. It´s only an impractical dream for most Cubans.
