Citânia de Briteiros from Guimaraes Without a Car?
Hi-My boyfriend and I are leaving for Portugal next week, eep! We have planned a stay in Guimaraes, and while we are there we would like to go to the Citânia de Briteiros archaeological site. According to the guidebook, it is about 15 km from Guimaraes, which seems too far to walk, alas. We'd prefer not to rent a car.
One guidebook mentioned a bus, but it didn't sound terribly convenient as it only operates 3 times per day and doesn't get you terribly close, but I am definitely willing to be persuaded otherwise.
Would a cab be crazy expensive? Are there reasonable tours? (I've seen a guide recommended, but 65E+ for a couple of hours seems rather steep). Is it possible to bike there, and, if so, can bikes be rented in Guimaraes?
Any information would be much appreciated, thank you!

We are also planning to go to Guimaraes next year after walking at least part of the Camino Portugues from Lisboa to Santiago. We hope you find out the best way to Citania de Briteiros, renting a bike if possible sounds like a great plan. After reading your post, I had to check it out and yes, we will want to go there too. Please post here again once you learn the route. And enjoy big time your travels in Portugal.Edited by: pacgator

This is a guesstimate based on what I did in 2010 on a cab jouney of the same distance, but I think the can would cost you 40 euro for a return trip, BUT it may be hard to get a cab back. Maybe you should look into the push bike idea, or get a cab there and then the bus back.Try e-mailing the tourist info office in Guimaraes and see what they suggest.
