Suchitoto as a base?
I will be in El Salvador for 5 nights in November and plan to stay in Suchitoto for at least 4 of those nights. In addition to spending the evenings in Suchi, I plan on doing a 1/2 day trip to San Salvador.
I also want to see the Santa Ana area. Is that a possible day trip or should I plan on staying in Santa Ana for a night to see the surrounding area? Any idea how long of a drive it is from Suchi to Santa Ana?
Thanks

I would suggest that once on the West - Santa Ana - stay there in the area and don't go back to Suchi as it is a rather long slog if by bus. From Santa Ana you could go to Santa Ana / Cerro Verde / Izalco volcano complex, visit Ruta de las Flores (Ataco, Apaneca, Juayua, Salcoatitan) which has nice small towns, cascades, thermal springs, zip lining, etc. etc., also Coatepeque Lake, Tazumal pyramid, or go to the coast.4
Will you have a car? If so day trips are a good idea but you might consider what Roque says about basing in diferent locations to see seperate parts of the country. Pleanty of nice lodging options in the Ruta de Flores, Werst Coast Beaches and of course Suchitoto. If coming to Suchitoto come by for local and personal information and if you're a birder let me know we have found some really nice spots in and around town.
