El Condor pasa or not?Dear Perutravelers,
Half November we pass by the Colcacanyon. Will there be condors to spot or is it the wrong season?Because we are not used to make treks into canyons we only want to do some sightseeing from Cabanaconde.Arriving from Puno we would spend only 2 days and traveling after to Arequipa. What do you think about?

1Shouldn't be a problem I guess, the first time I was there was in the month of October and there were half a dozen of them.
I can't remember where I've read many years ago that travel agencies feed them by throwing dead mules in the ravine.
It seems the condors can been seen twice a day, early morning and late afternoon.
It's quite a walk from Cabanaconde, some 12 km uphill but you could organize transportation from Cabanaconde or get off the bus from Chivay to Cabanaconde and walk the remaining 12 Km after you have seen the condors.
From Puno there are several buses to Arequipa, there's also a daily tourist bus from Puno to Chivay charging a hefty 40 USD with a couple of stops en route. Admission to the Colca Canyon is another 70 S/.

2There are regular busses between Cabanaconde and Cruz del Condor (maybe half an hour) going on till Chivay (another 2 hours) You could leave Cabanaconde in the morning, get off at the Cruz del Condor, take your time to look for the condors and walk around (tours only allow you about one hour but you can take much more time waiting if necessary). After thos take a bus to Chivay (ask around I doubt if there are busses in the late afternoon or later).
The condors like dry weather and especially sun (I saw them sitting spreading their wings to dry) so half november generally will be a good time to visit.
