Lusaka & Chingola Prices

I'm leading a team of 15 to Zambia in August. We'll be visiting an orphanage in Chingola but will also spend a few days in Lusaka.

Can someone tell me what I can expect for costs there per person?

Food costs
- Make our own - Cost per day
- Restaurant - Avg price per meal

Hotel Room Rental - Also, how many people will it accommodate?
House Rental for 1 week

Any other costs I'm not thinking of?

Any help would be appreciate

Depends what you are going to make? In a reasonable restaurant you can get nshima and beef for KW 20,000. An expensive meal will be between KW 50,000 and KW 80,000. There are lots of shops, so if you get a self catering place, you can buy food and cook.

Accomodation is expensive. A hotel is about KW 625,000 per night. You can get accomodation at a backpackers for about KW 175,000.

The exchange rate is KW 5000 to the USD.

Remember, you need Kwacha here, we don't accept USD.

I agree with everything Mark said.

If you want self catering then one of the backpackers in Lusaka is probably your best option if you are only staying a few days. Most of them can also provide reasonably priced meals for groups (around K30,000 - K40,000 per person).

If the group are willing to sleep in dorms then the accommodation costs can be even lower (around K60,000 - K70,000 per person per night)

I hope that helps

In the provinces in Zambia, you can find inexpensive accommodation such as
government guesthouses
council guesthouses
guesthouses run by churches, missionary stations

Their size, prices and cleanliness varies. I don't know what exactly is in Chingola.

Yet, being a big group reduces your chances to use them unless you agree to split between different places.

Have you calculated transport?

Btw. are you talking about next year August?

You'll struggle to get a house in Lsk or Chingola for a weeks rental!.

Lusaka has plenty of backpackers etc, Chingola, you'd prob need to be looking at a government hostel or some such place.

Would suggest checking on the internet and contacting some people.. see what they offer you.
