Family trip from Cape Town to East London South Africa
Going on a family road trip from East London to Cape Town south Africa - and back. One 7 year old, 10 year old, 16 year old and one "grumpy old man" coming along for the first holiday in 10 years.
We're stopping off at hamburg for 2 days and ending at Caledon. Want to visit Cape Town aquarium and Ratanga junction Theme park. Might visit the Cango caves & Ostrich & Lion Parks.
Any suggestions on interesting places, jummy restaurants or food, fun people and things to do or routes along the way there and back. I want to make the actual trip - and this holiday - as fun as possible.
If the "grumpy old man" cracks a smile - it will be worth it!

In Capetown, you can visit Boulders to see some penguins. In fact, make a day trip to Cape Point.
You may want to rent a car for this.
We stopped at Kalk Bay. At the harbour, we saw a seal swimming nearby.
Then off to see the Penguins at boulders.
Then to Cape point. At Cape point, we also saw a few baboons.
Go back to Cape Town via the western side.

We were just in this area with our family that includes 2 boys (10 and 14)Oudtshoorn - it was warm!!! Cango Caves was a big hit, as was the Ostrich farm
Hermanus - beleive it or not, Hermanus Backpackers was a FABULOUS place to stay as a family. They have a seperate house for families and couples and we really, really enjoyed our stay there. The whale watching in Hermanus is still excellent.
Franshoek - if you can make a visit here, take the 'tour' of Huguenot chocolates, it was great.
If you'll be going as far as Stellenbosch, we recommend Eagle Encounters, and Van Ryn's Distillery (Brandy - they do both tours and tastings there and it might appeal to your grumpy old man!)
Have a; good trip
PS - if you go to Cape Town, take the Red Bus tour - we went on a sunny day and it was glorious!

Stay overnight at the Knysna Elephant Sanctuary my kids still remember the experience several years on.
