Non-traditional Thanksgiving menu Ideas

Canadian Thanks giving is coming up and I'm looking for non-traditional menu ideas. It'll be a pot luck and I will be providing the main. We usually do Turkey but would like to cook something different. Ham is out and so is curry (did curry chrismas last year).
Any ideas please? Thanks

Will someone else bring turkey if you don't? And if not, will the other guests feel short-changed if there is no turkey? Thanksgiving is all about the side-dishes, for me, but I insist on at least 1 slice of turkey.

If you haven't recently read through the Serious Thanksgiving thread, spend some time reviewing it. Lots of ideas for all aspects of the festive meal.

Thanks. Everyone is bit meh about Turkey. We did Turkey last year as well. Lamb is an option. Any other ideas? ;)

For Christmas my Mil makes a beautiful stuffed (beef) roast. Sorry, I don't have the recipe but it involves feta cheese and rosemary. I'll see if I can get you the recipe.

An old thread Reinventing Thanksgiving Docbrown suggests haggis.

Will you be cooking the main dish on site or bringing it already cooked? That does make a difference--trying to haul a big beef roast and keep it warm is not exactly easy.

In my family, in addition to the turkey, we always had ravioli. Lasagna is also traditional with many Italian-American families.

Last Thanksgiving my MIL wanted to do something different with the Turkey. I don't remember what but it was something rather fru fru and fancy. We rejected her idea. We like the traditional turkey dinner and look forward to it. I'm even making it this year since we won't be with my in-laws.

There's no way in God's green creation I would even contemplate the possibility of having haggis for Thanksgiving dinner.

You could slow cook a roast in a crock pot if you have to take it with you (with carrots and potatoes of course). Problem solved.

East Texas Thanksgiving: deep fried catfish, hush puppies, potato salad, iced tea.

Change the potato salad to cole slaw and make it any other day but Thanksgiving and I'll be there. Just let me know Usher. :)

I can add cole slaw, but mom's potato salad must stay.

Okay, I can live with that. Who knows, I taste people's potato salad on occasion and kinda like it sometimes. Does it have mustard in it? I've yet to taste one without mustard that was edible.

I assume it has mustard in it, but none of us kids has been able to convince mom to divulge the recipe.

Well, I'll give it a shot. Wouldn't want to insult your mom. If you like, I can bring the cole slaw.
