One way flight from Europe to Mex?

Hello!

I think one way tickets are rarely a bargain as many times they cost the same or more than a return ticket....anyway just checking as usual before buying a ticket.

I plan a 6-7 months trip from Mexico to Brazil (overland) but I need to get to Mexico city first (or Los Angeles...for instance) from Europe. I normally buy Iberia tickets because with a fee of 150 euros they allow to change the date and route of the return leg.

At the moment an Iberia return ticket costs me 840 euros, good price since the first leg is in october to Mex and return from Rio de Janeiro in June 2013 (it would be cheaper with the return within a month, but is not my case..).

Any idea where I should check for a one way ticket for around 300/400 euros?

Thanks!

i think it's a big ask.... just booked a similar thing (LON-MEX, BOG-LON) with a flexible return leg (for a GBP 75- fee) and it was GBP 800 with a change in MAD...i shopped around with different routes, airlines and agents and this was the best price I could find.

Buying one way was as expensive as buying the open jaw...

Bear in mind that starting in LAX can be tricky due to US onward travel requirements.... i also considered that myself and found it was going to be quite laboreous.

good luck.

I very much doubt that you will find a one-way ticket to Mexico for much less than a return one - around 870 euros at the moment. You seem to have a very good price already.

Evanscm3,

are you flight Iberia/BA via Madrid to MEX?

What class of ticket did you get to have a £75 fee to change date/route? I got a "class reduced" which allows change date/route (but not refound) but my penalty fee is Euro 150...a big difference..

Are you aware of others airlines giving the option of changing the date/route of the return apart from Iberia/BA? I shopped around but did not find anyone else with this possibility (for me a must due to the long trip I am doing).

Thanks!

the fare class I do not know, just checked the ticket issued by the agent but it does not detail it anywhere obviously. Yes it's the BA/Iberia flight. Direct LHR to MEX on the outbound and change in MAD on the return. Flexible up to a max stay of 12months for fee + fare difference.

I looked at quite a few flights, the options all seemed to be BA/Iberia via MAD, Lufthansa (via FRA) or KLM/AirFrance via CDG or AMS.... plus all of those combinations of North american/canadian airlines if you want to try that.... seems worse timing wise i think.

you can get reasonable fare comparisons on their websites but it's not always easy to find the conditions of the return leg... i always found it much easier to speak to an agent than book on line for those 'big' tickets.

I think 800 is not a bad deal but i would call a few agents to get their 'professional' opinion. DialAFlight are great but I am not sure what their international presence is like.

I have recently paid £1,464.00 for two tickets from Manchester via London Gatwick to Cancun for the 2nd October 2012, returning to the UK from Houston, Texas in May 2013. The dates can be changed for a fee of £150.00 each. The tickets are valid up to one year.

I booked with a company called Dial A Flight.

The figure of £1,464 includes a £28.00 credit card fee.

BTW Warregyu, what's your itinerary in CA? Are you gonna spend 6 months in Mex/US as you are heading north to get to Huston?

I'm flying with BA (the Pullmantour is a bargain). I plan on staying in Mexico until the end of April - i.e. until it starts to warm up a little in the more northerly latitudes. We will be staying in an apartment in P.V. (yes I know it's not the real Méjico).
I'm used to living and travelling in Hispanic countries but my wife isn't; hopefully she'll be able to find groups to get involved with - charities etc
