Where to go to meet people and surf in the winter?

Where to go to meet people and surf in the winter?

Hi,
I'm probably gonna work in NZ next summer, in a hotel or a hostel, and I was thinking about Ahipara, because I want to surf too. I'm only gonna be 19, and I was just wondering if the people there are mostly young or older travellers. And if they're older, where could I go to meet younger people and still surf (so preferably on North Island)?

I dont know how much work you're likely to come across at Ahipara. After all its only a tiny settlement.
