We will be in Jaipur and want to go to New Delhi.
I'm thinking a train journey would be fun, but time is limited. Obvious;y we could fly but Id like, if it works to go by train in the late afternoon arriving in the evening or overnight but not at 5am arrival. If overnight, we could maybe save a hotel room but dont want to arrive tired either.
We are mid -50s and canb afford a luxury train . Ideally the train would be A/C, 1st class and importantly have a dining car, so that we are not stuck in seats whole journey.
Any ideas? I have looked and havent found any like that.

Check out the India rail site. I think the trip is only like 4 or 6 hours so no big issue. 1st class easy enough.3
We (also a couple in the 50s) did this - it's a 4-5 hour ride and there are plenty of trains . Go for 1st class A/C but do not expect luxury (and it still is very cheap). Forget about the dining car. It's india.Be aware that it gets dark pretty soon if you leave in the afternoon and you won't see anything as soon as it's dark (the windows are dirty anyway).
It's kind of fun but less than you might think. If you are not on a tight budget, I personally would go on a flight - although I have been on Indian trains quite often and know the experience. feel free to contact me on edwin_E at hotmail.com. http://indiarailinfo.com/ gives you the schedules.

There's plenty of trains going from Jaipur => Delhi with AC. 2A is quite adequate, you wouldn't need to worry about 1A.
Dining cars may not be what you are seeking. The food is really not up to the quality you may find here. A better option would be to get a tiffin container and have it filled at a restaurant of your choice in Jaipur, before you head off on the train.

Forget about the dining car - if there is one I would NOT eat there. It's India and I am not aware of dining cars that have a standard where I would eat! 1st class is okay (and I would go for it) but still not what you expect. It cannot compare to a German second class (maybe more space - but less comfort and less clean)7
OK... perhaps I should clarify the "dining car"...The car is little more than a bogey which is converted to have a lot of cookers along one side and preparation benches on the other. Preparation of food may even be done on the floor in some of the most unsanitary conditions.
The food is presented to you (you do not go to the "dining car" to eat), in aluminum containers. You eat with fingers or plastic cutlery.
The food within is prepared for all classes, not just those who are in 1st class. Here's a site which may help you better comprehend what you will get http://seat61.com/India.htm#classes
