Sometimes in life, something is better than nothing.Well yes, of course. But TIS's point (or one of them at least) is that people pay a lot of money for English lessons, so deserve to get a teacher who knows the subject and can actually teach. The Canadian was offering free help, which is rather different.
Here's a story that he (I assume he's a he, for some reason. Apologies if I'm wrong) will definitely like:
I was working at a crappy language mill in Shenzhen, and lazing around in the common room when a harried 'teacher' ran in and said "Quick! What's the difference between 'good' and 'well'? I'm in the middle of a class!"
"Ah. See, one's an adjective and the other's an adverb."
"Oh. Great, thanks. Erm, what's an adverb?"
Another one:
"Hey Johnny, I'm doing some stuff on idioms today. I know it probably doesn't matter, but what exactly is an idiom?"
