Accommodation near Port Authority Bus terminal New York?

Hi everyone,
This is my first post here, first timer in the US!!
I've done my homework but am confused as regards accommodation.I need somewhere cheap to stay walking distance from The Bus terminal at Port Authority New York. There will be 4 of us with at least 4 big luggages(the reason I do not want something too far...I do not want to take the subway with all those luggage as there's an elderly person in our group)..I cannot find anything for the moment and it's quite confusing!
My brother in law stayed at the Pan American last time but that involves going there by subway...I am keeping it as last resort.
p.s I will be arriving by bus from Oneonta.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

There are many choices, but you have to be very specific by what you mean by "cheap".

See FAQs 249, 256 and 268.

Your budget is an issue. Not only is this xNYC, the most expensive city for lodging in the US, but you are looking atthe most expensive part of the most expensive city for lodging (near xTimes Square).
I suggest either raising your budget, or considering the subway.

Would like to help you out with accommodation. I love traveling and exploring new places and when I don't know where to stay, what's the cheapest accommodation in a certain place, I always go to this link:

I hope this helps! :)

Good luck!

Thanks trav3light!!
I will probably settle for Pan American in Queens. There is a double room with 2 double beds for USD484 for 4 nights. It says a maximum number of people, are they really strict about this and do they check if there are more persons in the room? This would be ideal cause the room can fit 4 persons!!
Thanks!!

I meant they say a maximum number of 2 persons are allowed in the room. Can I still book the room and have 4 persons stay in the room?

Make sure you indicate that you are 4 when you book. You should get the same thing.
If not, then you shouldn't book it, as you will be violating their terms. (Btw, asking about and advising illegal activities, like fraud, is against forum rules).

However, I would suggest you not stay there simply because of the location.

Do not expect the same rate for 2 vs 4 people in a room. Many hotels charge a bit more.

The Pan American is not terribly convenient as a base for visiting NYC/Manhattan. A better option would be the Country Inns and Suites in Long Island City (Queens). It's a very quick subway ride into Manhattan.

Hotel prices fluctuate (a lot) by exact date, and Sept-Oct is a pricey time. I don't whether Country Inns will be in your budget and available for your dates. They include a hot breakfast, and rooms have a refrig and microwave.

The majority of the time, a room with two beds (that aren't twins) is expected to accommodate up to four guests. So taking a room with two beds with two guests won't be a different price than with four.
There are exceptions though, where the third and fourth persons are charged (usually $10-15 apiece), which is why I suggest checking.
