IMO...Thailand second to last

General English-speaking ability in South & SE Asia:

Malaysia - very good
Philippines - very good
Cambodia - good
Nepal - good
Vietnam - good
Indonesia - good
Myanmar - good
India - ok
Thailand - poor
Lao - last place
Bangladesh/Bhutan - don't know

No great surprise that the former British and American colonies speak good English. Viet Nam in the south at least has the Ameriacn influence. English is going to come more easily to the former French colonies as well. Go to Japan and find out how good the English is.

I find Thailand to be a breath of fresh air in comparison with a so-called 'developed' country like South Korea.

Yes, 14, I forgot to list Singapore, and you're right. Interesting commentary above. Re/ Thailand ... they'll be even further behind the 8-ball as ASEAN develops.

some foreigners say that they don't come away with this impression anymore, & some feel that the standard of English in Singapore has dropped...but not sure if they realise that slightly over 1 in 3 of the people they meet on the streets of Singapore these days isn't a local.
