T20 and safarisHello,
I'm going to be in Sri Lanka 23 Sep - 11 Oct, taking in some cricket and wildlife tours.
I have no real idea how I will organise myself - was just planning to arrive and see. But if anyone has any ideas, do let me know. I have tickets for the semis in Colombo 4-5 Oct, but otherwise, am pretty flexible.
Any tips on accommodation, guides, live music gratefully received.
I will also be on my tod, so happy to meet fellow travellers (without latching on to them for the whole trip!)

if you have tickets to see the cricket match in those days, after your arrival you can start wild life and adventure tour in sri lanka.if you are really wild life lover you can visit to Yala national park for a safari and camping if you like. and also there are so many places you can experience great wild life in sri lanka.
check your PM for more informations and wild life tours arrangements details.

i've been to sri lanka last year same time for 3 weeks and planning another trip right now. just look up the places you want to visit, the things you want to see and leave time for relax on the beach as well.
my itinerary last year was:
Ella and around
i never went to ancient cities though, i found the beaches and small fishing villages on south more attractive plus really friendly and warm people, and theres plenty of temples and Buddha statues on the way.
i suggest you go down south, spend a few days in a lovely beach hotel (wherever you decide), take day trips around, move on. you could take a safari in Yala or visit the small villages in mountains- amazing view!, or go up east coast, then head back to Colombo for the cricket and after that see the ancient cities.
no need to book hotels in advantage, nice places everywhere if you're not looking for 5 star, but be aware of the hotels right on the beach, the ocean is strepent :)
my opinion is- don't waste money for taxis or guides, trains and buses are ok and frequent.
