Moving to Singapore for 4 months! What to do, where to go?

My fiance and I are moving to Singapore early November and will be there through the end of March. We are very excited and want to start planning a few trips and wanted to get everyone's opinions on a few items.

1) What are the best budget air carriers flying out of Singapore?
2) What are the best areas to visit on a weekend or maybe a long weekend?
3) What places would you recommend as a must see and do?

Here are some of the places we have been throwing around: Bali, Langkawi Island, Angkor Wat, Halong Bay, Maldives, Bangkok, and the list goes on and on. What we really want is two fold, beach and culture. Maybe threefold actually, as we would prefer more off the beaten path as opposed to traditional tourist locations (like Kuta Beach in Bali).

I appreciate all the input and look forward to being a contributing member.

Hey there, welcome to Singapore.. There's so much to do here in Asia. I guess we all agree that Air Asia always offer sweet deals if you want to travel around Asia. Go visit Penang and Malacca in Malaysia, definitely Vietnam, Cambodia, i just got back from my trip around South East Asia, now live in Jakarta, feel free to check out my travel journal, i put some travel info, budget, and places to go in Asia, so hopefully all the info can help you.

Personally, I fly mostly on Airasia or Jetstar. Lots of short weekend ideas.
Islands: Phuket or any Malaysian island
Shopping: Bangkok and Hong Kong
Food: Macau, Penang
Culture and Heritage: Malacca, Siem Reap (Angkor Wat)

And I think one very underrated spot is Kota Kinabalu. Easy access to islands and national parks but usually missed by visitors to Malaysia. Since you have time, go visit!
