Absolutely ignore the first piece of advice. Opening an account here and getting it to work is the stuff of nightmares. You can use an ordinary Visa card here to withdraw from you account at home. From ATMs here VND is the only currency available. Make sure you know what the costs of using your card are before you leave home - ask your banking organisation what the charges are. It will cost 20,000 VND (just under $1) for each ATM use in VN and this amount is added to the amount of your withdrawal.

Can't make a lot of sense of notes 2 to 7 and I am having mild hysterics trying to imagine advice number 8.

Dam Sen park beautiful? Very popular, enjoyable, noisy and functional certainly but not beautiful.
maureen, you saying you have not had a medical slot put into your body so that you can easily stow your passport?

#2 - you've got it - no body slits, slots, crevices or cleavages for passport storage.

What gives here? This tout has been posting a lot lately yet this is shown as his first. Has he been banned then reappeared under the same name?

Don't know BB, maybe he's carrying out an ESL assignment or else he's suffereing from " too many bad in a room." In any case his advice is best ignored.

The initial poster may be suggesting that a foreign traveller should open an account back home at an international bank with branches in Vietnam such as HSBC or ANZ. This might save a few dollars in service fees but would limit the number of ATMs available. It's not worth the bother.

It's not because he's local, ti's because all of his posts, not just this one, make him sound like an armchair foreign traveler.
