Advice needed! Where to go after SE Asia?

Dear travellers,

I'm in need of some advice on where to go on my next backpacking trip. And what better place to go than this forum I guess.

I've seen a lot of SE Asia so far. Two months in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodja; Two months in South-China (Hong Kong to Dali) and Indonesia (Java, Bali & Lombok). In april of this year I did another three/four weeks in Thailand and Vietnam.

I'm really in love with the vibe over there. On my last trip I returned to some of the places I went before and I thought that was a lot less exciting. Still a lot of fun, but the surprise factor wasn't there. So I'm looking for something new!

For my next trip I'm travelling solo for the first time. I'm planning to go for three to four weeks in november/december of this year. What destinations can you guys recommend?

I'm still on a budget, so I'm looking for a place not that expensive to travel to (like Bangkok or Hong Kong). My starting point is Amsterdam. Since I'm travelling alone, I'm planning to stay in typical backpacker hostels. The ones with a place to hang out. Pooltable. Bar. Usually great to meet people. I've noticed that this differs per country. In Thailand and China you have a lot of those, where in Vietnam and Indonesia the hostels rarely have a communal space.

While backpacking I love to visit towns, jungle or a beautiful beach during the day. I love to rent a motorbike to get around. Going on a jungle trip of some kind for a few days is something I really like as well. At night I like to meet people and go for a drink or a party. Not Kuta, Bali, style by the way. More like Koh Chang or Hoi An.

I hope you guys can help me out! I'm open to everything. Central America or South-America has crossed my mind. Though other destinations in Asia would be great as well.

Thanks a lot.

I've heard Nicaragua being hailed as one of the next big budget locations. My last cigars came from there and they were really rather nice...no idea how that related to quality of travel though.

South America can be cheap. Peru is fun. Greece is a lot less expensive in recent years due to fiscal issues. Eastern Europe opened up decades ago but is only now starting to fully flourish.

Well I am just about to finish my Asia adventures and already looking for my next big trip. Why not try somewhere like Africa? That is somewhere I am looking into travelling to before I go to Australia. Then I am planning in going from south America upto central. The world is your oyster. I would also recommend trying some beautiful places in Europe. Eastern Europe is a lot cheaper than west.

In Thailand budget travelels mostly stay in guesthouses not hostels . Koh Chang is an increasingly built up mainstream resort island.

Thanks a lot for the tips so for guys! Gives me stuff to think about :) Nicaragua sounds like a good option! I've checked Bolivia as well. No direct flights from Holland I'm afraid so it's really expensive to get to. If I have a bit more time someday I wanna combine Peru and Bolivia!
