Far East/SE Asia/ Oz 2014

Hi!

I'm new to this so bear with me!

Me and my friend both 25 are currently in the process of planning a trip for 6 months around October 2014.

We've drawn a list of places we'd like to visit and these include Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, China, Japan and then onto Australia and New Zealand maybe with a cheeky stop in Fiji thrown in for good measure!

Basically any information no matter how small would be massively appreciated, best route? What should we be looking at expenditure wise? Is 6 months feasible for seeing the places we want to see? Best places to book flights/accommodation etc?

Any general advice atall would be smashing!

Thanks,
Andy.

Well you definitely have a good amount of time to save. Me and a friend are currently in china on a 7 month trip. We covered 9 countries as we wanted to explore each one and not just zoom through. You can do your trip in 6 months but maybe focus on some areas more. For example china is really big, same with Australia an lots to see in India too. So maybe buy a one way ticket and jut go with the flow once you get out here. We met people along the way, went to different places we didn't plan on going to. Best advice is just go don't think too much and enjoy!

Agree that better not to not plan too much and just take it as it comes. Out of China, India and Australia, I would only pick one - 6 months isn't enough time to see all 3

And remember Japan is much more expensive than some of the other parts of Asia.

Agree with #2, you could easily spend your 6 months alone in India or Oz.....putting both into your trip would mean hardly scratching the surface of either.how much you will have saved will also be a factor on where you decide to go... India, SE Asia and China will be considerably cheaper than Oz Japan NZ and Fiji....just sticking to the Asia will also cut out some airfares too. Again what you are really interested in seeing/doing should play a part in your plans.....like was said earlier no need to have a detailed day to day plan....have a few must do's and let the rest fall into place

Too many countries (most of them very large, with slow travel and lots to see)...and too little time.

What do you really want to see and do?

What is your max. budget?

There is nothing unique about what you have written andybebb. Before you ask what has been asked a thousand times before why not try using the search function at the top right of this page and do some reading.

If you search for things like RTW vs. one way tickets or daily budget for Asia etc. you will find plenty of previous posts on the subjects. On the W. Europe branch you will find a 'sticky' thread about Budget and Itinerary questions that's applicable regardless of where you plan to go. If you search for 'budget' or 'itinerary' you will find countless threads.

Welcome to the ThornTree andy but do bear in mind this is not a travel agency. You are expected to do some homework yourself first.
