Safari - Mikumi???

Hello,

we are coming in 3 persons on Oct 21 to Dar es Salaam for 2 weeks. We plan to go to Zanzibar but we think to make on the beginning of our stay or at the end 2 or 3 days Safari. What I found I think the best due the time will be Mikumi NP.
Can you reccomend some reasonable operator which is not expensive? Or how to do it with low cost but not to loose too much time and enjoy it? Do you think we can do 3 days under 400USD per person? (travel, game, accomodation)
Do you know/think how to get after to Zanzibar? Is it better to turn to Dar and get a boat or there is some flight opportunity to flight from Mikumi to Zanzibar?

Thanks in advance to everybody for helping us. We will go to this area first time so we are lack of local experience... :o)))

Best (and cheapest) to get the ferry for Dar to Zanzibar. The Azam Marine ferry company is a safe, reputable ferry with comfortable, fast boats that run serval times a day in each direction. The cost is $70 return. http://www.azammarine.com/

There is no cheap flight option from Mikumi to Zanzibar.

I don't know if you can do 3 days/2 nights in the park for under $400. You can try. We paid $600 for 3 days/2 nights tented and fully catered (i.e. one guide, one cook, one safari car, camping equipment and food) in the Seringeti but maybe Mikumi park prices are cheaper? Def haggle for the final price.

I'm not sure on prices, but would think it is possible to do a 2 night/3 day safari to Mikumi, camping with transport, park fees, all meals included in that price range. Camping grounds are in nice locations and recently renovated. And its a lovely time to visit Mikumi now. Flights with SAL www.flysal.com would be around $166 pp one way Mik to Zanzibar I think. Among others try www.coastal.cc, www.hippotours.com, www.kearsley.com for tour companies that regularly do camping to Mikumi

#1 - you wouldn't be any employee of the Azam Ferry company would you?? If so how about being a bit more honest!

There are a number of ferries operating between Stone Town and Dar es Salaam - but for me the only ones to use are the Kilimanjaro II or III - yes they may be a bit more expensive ($35/45 US each way) - but you will arrive safely and on time.
