Do We Need a Hotel Reservation in Wernigerode/Quedlinburg in December?

Hello-

My mom and I would like to mosey our way from Germany to the Czech republic to Slovenia in December around Christmas. If we arrived in Wernigerode or Quedlinburg on a random night (probably Dec. 18 or 20), could we easily find a nice hotel in the old town without a reservation?
